Face a day February

If you not hear of this and I will admit I didn’t , there’s a challenge out in blog land to draw , paint or collage a face for each day in February. kea Pea at art foamies and Rubbermoon stamps got me on to it .

And I’m hooked. I am not the great face drawer, I need to practice,

And doing this every day is a great way for me to be disciplined enough to sit down and do a face every day.

I can see this being something I do every year.

Blackbird

Blackbird by Wendy Aspinall

Mixed media assemblage stretched canvas.

In the 1960’s Paul McCartney wrote the lyrics to this beautiful song, Blackbird.

Up until a few years ago it was just that, a nice song to me. I didn’t know the story that inspired Paul McCartney to put pen to paper.

He has told the story many times after watching a news story in the UK about a group of nine African-American women who had to fight to go to a segregated high school.

He and his fellow band members cared passionately about the civil rights movement.

Now some 50 years later many of my fellow artistic friends care passionately about the civil rights movement.

I can’t write a hit song but I can make a piece of art that I hope will get you thinking, talking and doing your bit to make this a better place for all the citizens of this beautiful country.
