A tea party under the Halloween Moon

In the 1800's a coven of five witches convened on the full moon on the last week of October to celebrate Autumn and the coming of Halloween. The coven would go deep into the weeping woods. Under the watchful gaze of the Halloween moon they would have a tea party. Year after year under that bright full moon the coven would meet and chat, and eat fairy cakes, lots of sweet goodies, and drink herb tea. (I don't know if you know this but witches actually have quite a sweet tooth.) The group grew with each passing year to include more of these spellcasters.

As years passed the magic and wonderment of the tea parties was lost. The last few witches moved into the new world and forgot about the special night all witches used to share...

I come from a long line of witches. Despite my great-great-grandaunts Megan and Sissy being at the first tea party, I had never heard of the tea party under the Halloween moon.

Well that's until two night ago when I heard strange noises coming from Aunt Sissy's old trunk ......

and when I unlocked it, I found this.....

Aunt Sissy's spell book. I picked it up, turning the old book in my hands. I had forgotten that it was in the old trunk, I laid it down on the coffee table. BUT then suddenly  the book shook as if some unseen hand was touching it.

I moved back, afraid. I watched as the book abruptly opened, the pages flicking open so I could read the words at the top.

"Inciting the magic for a tea party under the Halloween moon..." it was as if the spell book wanted me to have a tea party.... the book had a list of the spells the two Aunts had used back then...and photos of some of the tea parties.

Look, this is my Aunt Megan with her strange taste in hats.

...and this is me, with Aunt Sissy.
It seems I had attended a tea party under the moon when I was younger. Oh yes and the toad is Aunt Megan; it seems she and her sister had a fight about some young man... but that's another story.

The more I thought about the wonderful and magical time the witches of the past must have had, the more I wished. Could I have a party? Tt was Halloween and moon would be full this week.

But who would I invite? What food would I make? The spell book moved under my hands again and I looked at the page.

It had all the information I needed. A list of modern day witches and where to buy the goodies for the party... it seemed there was nothing to stop me...

The wind whispered through the trees, and dark clouds drifted across the full moon, and for a second I thought I saw a shadow pass over the moon.

The table was set with every possible treat: From fairy cakes with chocolate butter cream to fresh toffee apples. The kettle was boiling and the herb tea was brewing in the pot...

I had laid the table as the spell book had suggested; I had added pumpkins, fall fruits, and fall leaves to thank the goddess for her gifts this year....

I felt my Aunt Megan and Sissy's presence as I sat down to eat. The clouds cleared away and the moons light lit the area in a soft glow. I could feel the magic in the air....

Later when I came back home, I glanced at the pictures of my Aunts on the wall. The photos had changed, no longer were the photos of two old ladies but of two smiling young witches…

I think my Aunts approved of my tea party under the Halloween moon... and who knew? Maybe next year they would come too.
Of course only if Aunt Sissy changed Aunt Megan back from being toad.

Thank you for joining me for my tea party under the Halloween Moon.

Now for a giveaway: A small altered picture can be yours if you can answer these simple questions.

I loved, loved, loved visiting your tea party. I felt drawn into all your beautiful art and poor Aunt Megan, we'll have to work on her being transformed back into a human. Maybe though she might like being a toad!

It's always nice to meet another Wendy.
