Today it's overcast and dull ... days like this I just want to look at something pretty.

I found some toy blocks at Target.... they were asking to be altered..... No really they were screaming at "BUY ME !" Well that's what I told Mr. H when he saw them ..... He give me that look! You know the look I'm talking about ...They are now happy because they have be altered into something pretty. Really can't you hear them whispering "I'm pretty"

I have something different to show you...
I'm going the the art and soul retreat in June and one of events they do is swaps or trades.... all the artists make small trades to swap out with each other... so while you eating or going up or down in the lifts there's swaps going on ... sound's fun doesn't it.

I didn't know what to make ... I thought ATC's but then I spied all the lids to the mint tins... the theme of the retreat is " puttin on the Ritz" Top hats , steampunk , Victorian. I wanted them to look old and wore .. I would normally paint the backs but this time I sanded them and left them natural so you can see that they are tin old lids.... I liked the worn , rough texture with the lace and pretty images. I have about twenty or so to make... but I'm pleased with them so far .. I plan to glue a magnet to the backs and maybe add some cogs and watch bits...

first a love note swap... each person made five envelopes with a note inside with a love poem or quote.. We all made our own books to put them in...... this is my book fill with astonishingly beautiful envelopes .

Tutorial.... An Altered Altoids tin

Tutorial.... Let's make... An Altered Altoids tin
you'll need: an empty Altoids tin....or two because once you make one you'll want to make more.
Sand paper
Decorative paper
Ribbon if you want to hang it but you could used wire or use cotton reels for wheels or an wood candle holder.
Images
Embellishments..... paper flowers , lace , tulle, moss... anything and everything
Gritter
Foam tape or small pieces of foam core card

Decoupage glue and a hot glue gun

Baby wipes for your messy fingers

Step one: I'm going to take the lid off my tin ... to turn in into a shrine but you can leave it on.... the lids can be used in a later project. Sand the whole tin and when done... wipe off the dust... You want to get a tooth to the surface so the paint or paper will hold.... this is the time you can paint the whole tin but today I 'm going to just use the paper.... I like using spray paint ... in cream but also black looks good if you are making an Halloween tin... I have also used gold. If you are painting let your tin dry overnight .

Step two:
Cut two pieces of your decorative paper to fit the inside and the back of the tin ...

I use this glue, it holds really well and because it a decoupage glue sealer. I can seal my paper with it too

I do the inside and then work on the outside....I know it looks like a lot of glue but I use this the seal the paper... use your fingers to push any air bubbles out... messy I know but you will get the paper to stick well .... I use brown ink to age the paper.

Step three: the sides needs to be covered I have used strips of my paper to do this ... lace , thin ribbon but I love the Tim Holst's tissues tape myself.

If you are hanging your tin this is a good time to add the ribbon or wire ... you can drill holes before you start sanding your tin.

I push the ribbon through glue and then cover with more tissue tape or masking tape...

Step Four.... play time...cover the sides with glue...covering the tissue tape to hide the ribbon.... add lots of glitter and let dry ...... when dry... tip out the surplus glitter

while you are waiting for the glue to dry, cut your images out ... I like to use small nail scissors...

Arrange your images... using the foam tape or I sometime use small cut pieces of foam core card and bump out you images to make them 3D

I now add the embellishments....

I add banners, pieces of floral picks.. more images, wide ribbon, paper flowers, seam binding ribbon mixed with tulle.

Just about everything and anything.Lastly I'm using a candle holder as a base ... I stained it with ink and added some more tulle and ribbon and some flowers

Almost done I believe the back should be as pretty as the front so I added a rosette and don't forget to sign your masterpiece.

Okay so off you go..... Create, Play and Enjoy

A Playdate

When my boys were younger,they would have play dates with their friends all the time ... but now they are grown the play dates are for me. Today my two friends Cindy and Mary came over for lunch...

and after much chatting, laughing and eating. I had a surprise for them.

Today is the day I show you the fantastical valentines tins I received from my partners ...Lorraine and Marfi Both Loraine and Marfi send tins and goodies so sweet and fabulous that poor Mr Husband is going to have a hard time trying to top them on Valentines day.....This is the tin from Lorraine ... look at that cute face and look she's carrying a cup cake ... I wonder if the frosting cream cheese??? Isn't it amazing ..... Lorraine thank you dear friend... I love it and thank you for the extra goodies..... the stamp is so pretty....

Now for Marfi ... Marfi and I have a love for the work of Lisa Kettle .. I love the whimsical elements she adds to all her work .... well Marfi's tin has the same feel, its fun and fanciful..... and again it has cupcakes in fact a whole cake shop.... Rhonda had this doll sheet on her blog for free ... she has lots of these doll characters on her site..... all with lots of details. They are 3D so you can stand them in the middle of a table as a wonderful center piece.

This one is called "Madame Valentine" , she is reading the tea leaves in mademoiselles Violetta's tea cup.... her dolls are two side and these stand up on their own.... I going to put them on my hall table... the wheels turn, the arms move... I had such fun with the embellishments.

I well and truly got in to my ATC zone today I have several ATC swaps coming up and today I cracked on with getting some of them ready to mail out.

The kids are back to school tomorrow ( boo hiss) that's from Mr. B not me. I love having them off and around but it's time for Mama to have some time to do what I want... And also the food bill will go down .. I swear these boys have hollow legs.

... I love how day two and three turned out and it's turning out to be a great way to used all the images and bits of scrapbooking paper I have laying around.

Also I have a present to show. It came from my super talented sister Julie ... now before the photo was taken there were four chocolates BUT Mr.B happen on by and one went missing... Thank you babe. I love the angels and the chocolates were Yummy!

I'm starting a new art Journey tomorrow. I'm for the first time ever going to put my thoughts in an art Journal...my dear friend Kim http://tabithalenox.blogspot.com inspired me to give it a shot , she posted about a wonderful year long free workshop hosted by Effy at Wild precious life.com... A book of days 2012 ... all I needed to do was find a book and then think of a word that I wanted to use. That was the easy part..... Of course I'm going to use the word that has shape my blogging story BLISS.

My blog is called BLISS ANGELS because it is the title of my first attempt at writing a novel. Fitting then that it is the word I use for my first attempt at making an art journal.

As I boxed up the Christmas trees and decorations for another year and cleared my home ready to greet the new year. I also changed my header and background ready for 2012.

That special lady is my mum. She has an birthday coming up in January and this is what I made for her ... I hope she likes it. the images is from paper whimsy... My new favorite resource for stunning images. I don't think there's one I don't love and want in my collection.

First the story behind this.. When my Dad was a small boy living in Leicester in England ..He asked his Mum"Where do babies come from?" knowing that she didn't want to tell her five year old the in and out of where babies came from she told him instead that the faeries left babies in flower buds.. A cute idea if not a tad untrue .. we all know that babies from from cabbage patches.. LOL

For the whole summer my Dad spend every waking hours searching each flower he saw.

Years later he told this story to me and it always stuck with me... I imagined that small boy looking in each flower hoping or maybe not hoping he would find a baby asleep... so when Electra sent a sleeping baby faerie to me the other day ... I knew what I had to make

I'm sad but happy today. Sad that another swap has come to an end but happy because yet again I'm amazed with the beautiful tins that have been made and swapped.

It's astonishing what you can do with a empty mint tin and lots of Christmas magic... sugar faeries dance , angels appear and it snows indoors.

Christmas toys.... an aldered tin

I am hooked on the images from Paper whimsy ... I was so inspired I started this altered tin at ten o'clock last night and could wait to finish it this morning... it's not a mint tin but one of the many tins in my cupboard... it's about the size of a slice of bread and I'm going to use a old plate stand to display it. I have another tin to make ... this one's special..... it's going to my Mum for her birthday.. I'll show you soon. Have a great weekend

We are swapping out but I have a problem when we agree to this swap there was lots of beautiful Acorns with their caps littering the ground but alas this week only one's without caps .. so I went on line hoping I could buy some to send to her but did you know "there's a Acorn shortage this year"... No really ! too much rain made the trees produce less Acorns .....I'm so thankful that Karla as kindly offered to wait until next year when I promise to send her lots of Acorns

To hold on to your hats ladies because I have something to show you that will blow your minds and knock off your boots... Are you ready?

First let me explain... this is the Christmas cheer tin I received from my dear friend Jill of Flight and Feathers... I told you on my last post that I had peaked and could wait to have it in my hot little hands so yesterday when it arrived as by magic ... I was blow away..speechless...Gob smacked..All of the above and more.

It's even more beautiful in real life, the photo doesn't capture the sparkle and glitter....all the tiny details. I placed in under the glass..so everyone can admire and drool.... there will be a lot of drooling going on!

For the WTA ( winner takes all) at the yahoo VPI group. I made this ATC shrine for Kris.. It's ATC sized although in the photo it looks smaller...I think it because of the shape. It's titled Christmas morning... I hope Kris likes it. It was pretty easy to put together, I used matchbox to make the shrine part.

It's a wet and windy today again. I know I've been missing, I've been baking , crafting and having Christmas fun.

I've also been crafting my tin for the Christmas cheer tin swap. It has arrived safely to my partner Jill house . So I can now show you without fear she will peak... I actually made two, Jill is the one with the German scrap angel wings and the vintage crystal... I made the one with butterfly wings first to test how I wanted it to look.

When is a addiction bad? when you can't stop? well I have a bad addiction to making these altered tins... I even asked Mr. Husband to buy more tins because I wanted to make two more sugar plum faerie tins..... Yeah I'm bad.. But they are so sugary sweet that I can't help myself... I'm not sure if I could add anymore glitter to them, but I darn well tried.

The upside..... everyones breathe is minty fresh. Ha Ha!or should I say Ho Ho!

Thankful it's a good theme because everyone is thankful for different things... My list is long but at the top of that list is my Family, but I also have chocolate and tea, both items I can't live without...

This is the ATC Karla sent ...Titled 'Over the river and through the woods " I love that is opens to this Victorian scene. Very cool ! Also Karla sent some real turkey feathers .. oh my! they are so pretty... also some teas called Christmas eve and Eggnogg'n ... Mmmm I can't wait to brew them up. So what was I to do with all the tin lids I have lying around... when I make one of my altered mint tins, I like to take the lids off so I have a collection.... and it grows bigger each day.. soon I'll be under a mountain of tin lids... I feel a project coming on

It's bad when I only get to rest my poor feet by nicking a few minutes on the computer... it's all go... the boys pulled out the Christmas trees over the thanksgiving break and now they have gone bad to school. I have to get them beautified.... It 's been a all day job but last all three are pretty.... Want to see?

Actually it was a nice job to do .. the weather is horrible today , windy and rainy so the only thing to do on a day like this is to stay in the dry and pull out the Christmas decorations.

And thanks to the birthday pressy from my sister Julie on Saturday I was also able to make a few new pieces for the white tree.... Julie send this parcel of goodies... thanks babe! I love everything

But look who dog tried from all the decorating....Acorn.
That or he's waiting for Santa dog to put his gifts under the tree...

Who would of thought that you could make a faerie from cup cake cases , but that what this Christmas faerie is made from. I've add a vintage candle holder under her dress so she can be hooked on to the tree . The idea came from Lisa Kettell. Not only does she have fun ideas on her blog but she also has a book which I asked for for my birthday ... it arrived yesterday and OH boy! It is in full of fun and cute ideas.

Do you ever have so much stuff on your crafting table you can't think where to start. My table is full and I have half finish projects everywhere that my brain is ready to exploded. I have several swaps to finish,but it instead of working on one I'm trying to do them all at the same time ... so save myself from going crazy I have stopped.... come to the computer and I'm going to reboot... breathe.... and think of passed Christmas's

This season is busy,I feel sometimes that I'm so wrapped up with what to buy everyone that I forget the real reason I enjoy this time of year...... Family. All our family is in England and Christmas has always been difficult for me.. ...

When my Nanna was alive; she and Gramps would coming over on Christmas day... but it's not Christmas lunch I remember but Christmas teatime. My mum would fill the table.
.... sandwiches, vol vets, mini quiches, minced pies , cakes and trifle.

And of course Christmas cake with thick white icing... that looked like the snow outside... she would always put a mini Christmas tree, holly and Santa figurine on the top.

After we had eaten. My Nanna would bring out a paper mache snowman, It was hollow inside and she would fill in with small gifts...lipsticks, wooden games, paper fans, toys but the one year that is burnt on my brain is the year she give everyone underwear.....no really! the whole table unwrapped parcels filled with knickers and Yfronts....(that's panties for all who's who don't know what knickers are)

This was the same year I brought my new boyfriend, my future husband. Imagine the embarrassment as I pulled out a pair of knickers. If the floor could have opened up and swallowed me I would have been happy because not only was the gift..... panties but they had to be the most un sexy, granny pants she could have found....LOL
So I'm thinking.....

I wonder if I could make a hollow snowman.. He He!

for all the birthday wishes...The day hasn't turned out how I thought it would ... after dropping Mr. B off at school I came home with migraine headache.... so the morning was spend lying on the bed with Willow and Acorn...but seeing your wishes have brighten my day and the pain is starting to go away...

Foot sore, but happy...

I'm back although I didn't want to leave the NYC.... the city is beautiful at this time of year. The trees in Central park were wonderful... We stayed at the Ritz Carlton , so we could see the park. We went to the hells kitchen flea, antique market.

I loved Chelsea, like it counterpart in London it is very trendy and fun...

I found some cabinet cards

and then we found a English pub inspired restaurant... I had to laugh... I didn't have a york strip but Fish and chips LOL..

Time to walk three blocks to tinsel trading... pass two blocks of fabric stores.. if you like sewing that is the place to go....My mouth was watering at the array of fabric...I popped in one of the stores to buy some the bias ribbon... and was overwhemed with the choice of colors... I brought pink , purple and white which I want to hand die.

Next tinsle trading OMG ! I love this store. I could spend hours going throught all the boxes... looking at flowers , trims and ribbons... but I had a list... just look at the wall of flowers.

and the windon diplay. I'm thinking how cool those banners would look over my fireplace....

So what did I buy,some German scraps, some ribbon flowers , mushrooms,leaves and a mixture of vintage embelishments...My fingers were itching to play with them.

BUT.. my feet were aching, so back to the hotel for afternoon tea .... well I can't go a whole day without a cup of tea... but they didn't just bring a pot of tea... but also a tray of delicious open sandwishes followed by fresh scones and Devonshire cream. Then lastly another tray of cakes and pastries. YUM!

Just enough time to get ready to go to the radio city rockettes.... I loved walking throught the busy streets. The show was dazzling!

I had the best birthday ever... now let me think... Do you think I could get Mr hubby to go again for his birthday??? LOL

The secret to staying young!

YES ! my Birthday and my dear MR. H is taking me away to New york again... He knows I love the place and to add to my enjoyment tickets to see the Radio City show and a trip the Chelsea Antiques market....

and then when I get back I have my ticket to see the Twilight Movie.. so life is Gooooood! And If there's cake too, then I have died and gone to heaven...

But I think the secret to staying young is...."Be fearless, dance when ever you can, eat cake for breakfast, buy high heels, enjoy your family and friends, and always look for good lighting!"

I've been playing again with tins... altering them with some Christmas cheer...so who's up for a Christmas tin swap? An altered Altoids mint tin swap.... Think angels ,glitter, trees holly .. Santa's and elves etc.

This next post is about eye candy... something so beautiful and inspired that you want to keep looking at it.

It comes with thanks from Mercedes http://mercedesscott.typepad.com/, a while ago Mercedes and I signed up to take part in spell book swap... I sent her a spell book based on the Practical magic movie... Mercedes asked if I'd like a spell book about dark angels, well as you all know angels have a special place in my heart....especially dark angels... so I shouted YES at my computer.. and yesterday this special parcel arrived.
Just look at the embellished vintage photo and the lace hankie...

Oh my own faerie princess,I've hung her on my iron bed. I love waking up to see pretty things... and she is pretty but wait there's more......

Without even opening the first page, I knew this spell book would be beautiful....

and I wasn't wrong... I was breathless for a few minutes.... as I turned the pages.... spellbound , pure eye candy.

Thank you Mercedes I don't have the words to say how much I love this spell book ... I could spent hours looking at it and I will treasure it forever.

The halloween tin showcase

It's not often I'm blown away.. speechless but when the tins started to get posted on these ladies blogs. Each one blew me away with their skill and talent for the artist who made them... and I would happily given them a home but alas it was not meant to be.. instead the tins went to wonderful homes where they would be admired and looked at each day.

OUCH! I twisted my ankle at Walmart...Why are their floor so slippy? Are they trying to kill me? It didn't hurt until I got out of the car and OH boy! So I'm tying to rest it , which isn't easy. So to stop myself from making matters worse I'm sitting at the computer with iced foot ...I'm not a sit down and rest kinder person .. I'm itching to get up and do something... so what can I do without walking.... not a lot! so I'll show you... this..... My exquisitely crafted matchbox from Jen... it was for the Handmade Halloween swap.. I love the images she used both on the altered matchbox and on the hanger... and tag. thank you Jen.

Okay what now? I know I'm a big baby... what about the Twilight movies and popcorn? All three that should take up the whole afternoon... I know its a hard life but someone needs to do it.

Shock, horror .... no I have not just seen the gas bill or the muddy paws prints on the floor BUT Micheal's has started to move the Halloween stuff out and bring in Christmas .. but wait isn't it still October? surely it too early.. what if you still need purple and black garlands or Skelly's or pumpkins.... I better post my Halloween witch hat before Halloween is over.

update: I found out my wonderful parcel came from Victoria from http://thingsilearnfrombear.blogspot.com thank you Victoria and Bear who of course picked out which candy tho send....

A parcel arrived on my door step.... for the something's brewing secret sister Halloween swap but I need a detective to help me because my partner didn't put her name in the parcel... she did add some peeps and candy corn... Did you notice I listed them first Yummy! Some stickers and embellishments oh I know just how to use them.
Some wonderful Halloween stamps in a small pouch...ribbons and a cute halloween bag but no name ..... who could it be? .... so Dear secret sister thank you so much..and I wish you a very happy halloween... Hugs Wendy

Good morning all , it's a wet and windy day in the Peach State... I planned to put my Halloween decorations outside but it is so windy I fear my neighbours would get them instead.

I saw some nested coffin boxes at Micheal's last week and thought I would just altered them and fill with Halloween candy but as I lay in bed on Saturday night I had a brainwave.. yes I do get my best ideas in bed. So next morning while the house was quite. I made this..

The iron has not been touched , the dogs have not been walked, spiders webs hang from the walls and crows gather in the hallway.. and Yes my house looks spooky..

My studio is a mess I have been busy in there from dawn to dusk putting swaps together. One of those swap is the something brewing secret sister halloween swap. It's a big secret so I'm showing you just a small part and I'm not telling who I'm sending to.. I just hope she like it.

All my swaps have been sent , now have time to play with some BOO books and pretty witch ATC's.
